Senegal secured a 2-0 victory over Burundi in their final 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier at the Diamniadio Olympic Stadium in Dakar on Tuesday night. Habib Diarra scored both goals to ensure the Teranga Lions triumphed.

With Senegal already guaranteed top spot in Group L, the win further confirmed their dominance, as they finished ahead of Burkina Faso, who also qualified for the tournament. Senegal and Burkina Faso will join 22 other teams at the AFCON, set to take place in Morocco in late 2025 and early 2026.

Senegal controlled the match from the start but only broke the deadlock in the 35th minute. Iliman Ndiaye set up Diarra for the opening goal. Burundi struggled offensively in the first half and were dealt a setback when midfielder Youssouf Ndayishimiye was injured, forcing an early substitution.

In the second half, Senegal made a change with Cheikh Sabaly coming off the bench, and his impact was immediate. Sabaly assisted Diarra’s second goal in the 51st minute, extending Senegal’s lead and putting them in full control of the match.

Senegal comfortably held on to their lead, finishing with five wins and one draw from their six matches in Group L. Their strong performance reinforces their status as one of the favorites to lift the AFCON trophy in 2025.
