Burundi Kidnapping Suspects Facing Rape Charges

Three Burundi nationals appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court in Cape Town, facing serious charges after the kidnapping of a 14-year-old girl. The suspects, two aged 30 and one aged 24, are charged with kidnapping, robbery, rape, and extortion.

The girl was reported missing a week ago, and police, acting on a tip-off, located the suspects in a house in Parow on November 17. Two of the suspects were arrested, and the girl was safely returned to her family.

Further investigations led to the arrest of a third suspect on November 18. The charges suggest the suspects took the girl, stole her phone, and later demanded money from her family.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed that the prosecution intends to oppose bail for the suspects, who are currently in custody. Their identities have not been revealed due to the sensitive nature of the case.

The case has been postponed to November 26, when further details regarding the bail application will be provided.
