Angolan President Meets UN Chief

The Angolan president spoke at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Wednesday, where he advocated for greater solidarity among nations and defended multilateralism to solve today’s problems and settle international conflicts.

Lourenço said it is the only way to address challenges, including poverty and climate change.

He highlighted the urgency of reforming the UN Security Council to reflect today’s reality and modifying the representation of the different regions within it, so that could Africa a permanent seat.

Lourenço denounced the lack of financing as an obstacle, preventing many Global South countries from making progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, from therefore the reiteration of the call to reform the international financial architecture.
