Namibia has no mpox vaccines available, as confirmed by the Ministry of Health and Social Services. This follows reports of Angola’s first case of mpox in Luanda, while cross-border travel between the two countries continues.
Ben Nangombe, Namibia’s health director, explained that high global demand for mpox vaccines has led to shortages. Manufacturers are prioritizing high-risk countries, leaving Namibia without supplies for now.
The government is working on securing vaccines for the country. Nangombe assured the public that efforts are in place to address the shortage soon.
Angola’s confirmed mpox case involves a Congolese national in Luanda. Namibia has tested 38 people, all of whom tested negative for the disease.
Nangombe emphasized that no mpox cases have been confirmed in Namibia yet. He urged the public to stay calm, avoid misinformation, and rely on official health updates.
