The first tanker with liquefied natural gas, according to the agreement concluded between “Bulgargaz” EAD and the Turkish company “Botash” for access to the gas infrastructure of Turkey, will arrive today at the “Marmara Ereglisi LNG” terminal.
On this occasion, at 11:00 a.m. local time, the Minister of Energy Rosen Hristov and the executive director of Bulgargaz EAD Denitsa Zlateva will visit the terminal, which is located 35 km east of the city of Tekirdag on the coast of the Sea of Marmara, the media reported.
The supply of liquefied natural gas is from the American company “Chenier”, which won the tender announced by the public supplier in September 2022 for securing the necessary quantities for 2023, reported the press center of “Bulgargaz”. One of the gas company’s conditions for participating in the auction was that the sources of the supply of liquefied natural gas should be from countries without imposed sanctions, embargoes or any trade restrictions.
The agreement between “Botash” and “Bulgargaz” was signed in Sofia on January 3 this year and has a term of 13 years. With it, the Bulgarian public supplier gained access to five terminals for liquefied natural gas and the gas transmission network of Turkey. It is planned that 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas will be transferred per year.
The tanker, which will arrive on April 12, is for 50 million cubic meters, the executive director of “Bulgargaz” Denitsa Zlateva informed at the end of March. The gas company has signed a contract with the supplier and there are no intermediaries. The amount for slot, regasification, storage and transmission to the interconnection point between Bulgaria and Turkey is paid.
